The Petrobras Effect: Brazilian Stock Exchange Has Worst Performance of all Americas in 2010

While Brazil is the most often talked about emerging country, Brazil´s Bovespa had the worst performance of all stock exchanges in the Americas in 2010. In percentages:

Peru11,82
Venezuela11,33
Nasdaq (USA)8,46
Chile7,93
Colômbia7,85
S&P 500 (USA)6,42
Dow Jones (USA)5,57
Argentina3,26
México1,76

The analysis is by Brazil´s Economatica. Bovespa´s return was heavily influenced by Petrobras, PBR, which declined after its IPO. Without the PBR effect, Bovespa would have returned 6%.
